Gordon B. Payne

Mr. Gordon B. Payne, 81, of Blairsville, Ga., died Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Union General Hospital in Blairsville.

Mr. Payne was born Friday, September 10, 1926 in Union County, Ga., to the late Charles Monroe and Virginia Ross Payne. He was a member and Deacon of New Union Baptist Church and member and Past Master of Young Cane Masonic Lodge # 597 F & AM. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bessie Cain and a brother, George Payne.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Payne, of Blairsville; sons, Donald B. Payne of Blairsville; Brian K. Payne of Mineral Bluff, Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law, Chearl and Jerry Ballew; Darlene and Wendell Murphy; Barbara and Tommy Rogers; Dianne and Dale Spivey; and Annette and Ron Whitmer; brother and sister-in-law, Major and Grace Payne, all of Blairsville, GA, fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren. Many friends and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services were held Friday, September 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Youngblood and Rev. Harrison Bradley officiating. Music was provided by New Union Baptist Church Choir. Interment followed in New Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites by Young Cane Masonic Lodge # 597 F & AM. Pallbearers will be the following gentlemen: Kevin Payne, Levi Payne, Jerry Ballew, Jr., Stephen Ballew, David Murphy, Derek Spivey, and Keith Payne.
