George Clayton Buchanan

Mr. George Clayton Buchanan, 80, of Hicks Gap Rd., Blairsville, Ga., died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 in the Piedmont Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Buchanan was born April 6, 1927 in Jackson County, N.C., the son of the late James Buchanan and the late Elba Brooks Buchanan. He had retired in 1985 from the General Motors Lakewood Plant after over 32 years of service. George was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved the great outdoors. He also enjoyed watching funny movies. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. George was preceded in death by a brother, Floy Ray Buchanan who was killed in battle in WWII in 1941. Mr. Buchanan was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Buchanan is his loving wife and best friend of 54 years, Hazel Harkins Buchanan of Blairsville; son and daughter-inlaw, Eric and Lois Buchanan of Forsyth, Ga.; sisters, Azilee Buchanan of Marietta, Annie Dee Harmon of Franklin, N.C.,

Elizabeth (Maggie) Cabe, Mary

Moore and Roberta

Crawford, all of Sylva,

N.C.; grandchildren,

Rachel Miley, Jonathan

and Austin Miley; great grandchildren, Jasmine,

Mathew and Jessie

Miley, Arwen

Buchanan; great great

grandchild, Camron

Miley; many other relatives

and friends also survive.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007 from the Philadelphia Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Underwood and Rev. Worth Chastain officiating. Special music was presented by Church Choir and Robin Waldroop. Pallbearers were Austin Buchanan, Mathew Miley, Greg Crawford, Randy Cabe, Jacob Jordan Grizzle, Ray Crawford and Jonathan Buchanan. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
