The Dismembered Tennesseans at Folk School
The Dismembered Tennesseans featuring fiddler Fletcher Bright will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 21 at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown The concert will be held in the Festival Barn. Those attending are urged to park near Keith House or the Dining Hall and walk to the Festival Barn where a few handicapped parking spaces are available. There will be a limited number of folding chairs as well as haybale seating, so audience members may wish to bring a lawn chair or blanket. Admission is free.
Despite their name, The Dismembered Tennesseans feature tight instrumentals and outstanding vocals - the result of a musical collaboration that goes back to 1945 when a group of Chattanooga high school students first got together to play bluegrass music.
Fiddler Fletcher Bright has played with many of the great names in bluegrass music and has several fiddle championships to his credit. He is a realtor, shopping center developer and pilots the plane that has transported the band on many performing tours. Ed "Doc" Cullis is a retired orthodontist who, according to other band members,
"can sing, but mercifully doesn't." He
does, however, play outstanding banjo, specializing in a melodic fiddle tunes and blazing fast banjo breakdowns.
Joining these two founding members are outstanding musicians Bobby Martin, guitar, Don Cassell, mandolin, Brian Blaylock, dobro, and Laura Walker, bass (formerly of The Wildwood Girls).
