Melanie Ann Phillips
Mrs. Phillips was born Sept. 27, 1951 in Murray, Ky., the daughter of Melva Miles Phillips. She graduated Murray High School in Murray. She also graduated Murray State University for two years and also Graduated the Stratford Women's College in Atlanta where she received an Arts Degree. At the time of her death she was employed with the North Georgia News, where she was a Graphics Artist for over 13 years. Melanie was fond of gardening, especially her flowers. She was very artistic in many other areas. She designed the logo for the Diabetes Association of Georgia. She loved her work, but her main devotion was to her mother and her puppy dog. She was preceded in death by an uncle, Joseph L. Miles in 2002. Mrs. Phillips was of the Baptist faith. Surviving Mrs. Phillips is her mother, Melva Phillips of Blairsville; sister, Malinda S. Hawthorn of Port Arthur, Texas; nieces, Elaine Tippitt of Houston, Texas, Diane Scardino of Houston; nephews, Alan Hawthorn of Port Arthur, Texas, Dr. Kevin Hawthorn of Waco, Texas, Aunt, Lorraine Miles of Midland,Texas; cousins, Barbara Covington and Kevin L. Miles, both of Midland; many other relatives and friends also survive. Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 31, 2007 from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. Pallbearers were Kenneth West, Shawn Rudd, Josh Lindt, Stephen Colwell, Kevin Miles and Andy Scardino. Interment followed in the Coosa Methodist Church Cemetery.
