The Wilson Family returns to old courthouse

The Wilson Family performs at the old courthouse in Blairsville on Friday, September 7.
The Wilson Family of Brasstown, NC is returning to The Old Courthouse on the Square for a concert on Friday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m.

Being second and third generations of one of the area's most beloved gospel groups, The Wilson Brothers, the Wilson Family is proudly carrying on the musical tradition of the family.

Jimmy and Karen Wilson are the parents of the group. Jimmy is a son of Ray Wilson, the mandolin player and lead singer of The Wilson Brothers. Karen is the former Karen Odell from Franklin, NC.

Jimmy and Karen play guitar, and so does eleven-year-old Anna. Son, Daniel, who is sixteen plays bass, and Jessica, fifteen years old, plays mandolin. Jessica usually does the lead singing while Karen does low harmony, and Anna sings the high harmony.

As with The Wilson Brothers, The Wilson Family does mostly gospel with some other bluegrass songs thrown in. The members of the family write many of their own songs.

At the present time, The Wilson Family has participated in two CD's that have been projects involving all of the Wilson extended family. These two CD's are "His Blood Is On My Soul," and "Written in Red." TheWilson Family has just completed a new CD "Sweet Hour of Prayer."

It is good to see and hear The Wilson Family carrying on in the great singing traditon of the family.

There is no required admission charge to the summer concerts presented by the Union County Historical Society in The Old Courthouse Square. The musicians donate their time and talents. The concerts are presented as a public service and to preserve the tradition of music in the old building. Voluntary donations to the maintenance fund are always welcomed and appreciated.
