Home Depot gives to Community Council

The Home Depot of Blairsville has made a $1,000 gift of materials to the Community Council of the Georgia Mountain Research and Education Center. John Wischmeyer, Manager of the Blairsville store, made the announcement. "On behalf of The Home Depot, my associates and I are pleased to continue our support of the work of the Community Council at the GMRE Center. The company believes in giving back to the region through important causes. The Council's work certainly qualifies. The Council's programs and activities are serving a significant number of students and adults in our region. We applaud their service to many of our customers", said Wischmeyer.

Founded in 1979, The Home Depot is the second largest retailer in the country. The average store offers 40,000 products. From the first store in Atlanta, the company has grown to over 2,100 stores in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The Blairsville store opened in June 2002.

"We appreciate the generous support of John and his associates at The Home Depot. Their gift of lumber and other supplies was of great help to the Preservation Committee's project to construct a large arbor and additional boardwalks throughout the ethnobotanical garden. It is wonderful to have The Home Depot as a partner with us in service to the region," said Jennifer Cordier, Preservation Committee Chair.

In its three years of operation, the Community Council has served over 9,600 adults through its programs and activities while conducting six preservation projects important to our beautiful mountain region. Last year over 200 volunteers assisted in the work of the Council.
