Old Enough To Know Better in Folk School Concert on August 31
The Atlanta based group Old Enough To Know Better will be featured in a free concert at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. on Friday, August 31 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Festival Barn,.but those attending are urged to park near Keith House or the Dining Hall and walk to the Festival Barn where there will be only a limited number of handicapped parking spaces available. In the barn there is hay bale seating, so audience members may wish to bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfort. Admission is free.
Old Enough To Know Better is an eclectic quartet that performs songs in a variety of styles with rich, close harmonies. Their repertoire includes original songs; shapenote hymns; Beach Boys, Beatles, and Ink Spots tunes; several bluegrass gospel songs; a Sea Island hymn from the Georgia coast; folk ballads; a hymn from the Episcopal Hymnal; songs from the doowop era; and more.
Doug Oster (bass vocals, guitar, bass) sings in a wide range of voices, from low bass to baritone, in styles from classical to country. Larry Schulz (baritone vocals, guitar, bass, mandolin) has been in writing and playing music for the past 40 years. A scholar of Chinese language, Larry has written a doo-wop tune in Chinese that is part of the quartet's repertoire. Britt Dean (tenor vocals, guitar, percussion) has performed in quartets, choirs, summer stock theater and in a rock-and-roll band, with Larry Schulz in the late seventies. Allison Adams (alto vocals, guitar, concertina) began her musical
journeys at the piano
at age six, eventually moving to guitar and concertina. Since 2003, she has been one-third of Local Honey, a trio that performs "songs we like," whether it's jazz standards or Allison's originals.
