Just a few days away Free and open to the public, this heritage event celebrates the rich Appalachian history and culture of our mountain community. The event will be held Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 1- 2, 10am-5pm, on the grounds of the Mountain Life Museum, one block south of the Old Courthouse in Blairsville. A community outreach event of the Union County Historical Society, the event is kindly underwritten by United Community Bank. The Mountain Marketplace is a fun-filled family event, with something for all ages, including: • live performances by talented musicians, coordinated by "Music Man" Sam Ensley • high-quality arts & crafts including jewelry, pottery, stained glass, gourd art, fiber art, wood crafts, photography, garden art, twig and bark furniture, and more • traditional items such as handmade soaps, handcrafted candles, homemade preserves, and locally produced honey • heritage activities such as gold-panning, quilting, spinning, caning, and basket weaving • living history around the Civil War-era log cabin, including soldiers in period costume and individuals engaged in traditional activities. These heritage activities help tell the story of life in this rugged land a century ago, giving us a glimpse of the inventive, hardworking, and self-sufficient mountain people who settled this area. Residents and visitors alike are most welcome to attend. Please contact the Historical Society at (706) 745-5493 or history1@windstream.net for additional information.
