Williams awarded scholarship
Williams, 23, is a native of Blairsville and a graduate of Union County High School. He has made significant contributions for the Bulldogs special teams unit and scout team, while also seeing action on defense. He made the team as a walk-on, and was red-shirted his first season. According to former UCHS Athletic Director Terry Rogers, Williams is only the third player in the history of UCHS to play football for a Division 1- A college. Williams is the son of United Community Bank President Andy Williams. Highlights from his career include: 2006: Appeared in 11 games as reserve safety and starting member on the special teams unit Tied career-high with three tackles against Florida Team went 9-4 including a Chick-fil-A Bowl win Ready for fall drills after successful knee rehabilitation 2005: Suffered season-ending knee injury in third game of the year Recorded four tackles, one tacklefor loss and one interception in annual spring G-Day game Named Most Outstanding Walk-On for the defense Part of SEC Championship team 2004: Saw action in all 12 games for the Bulldogs during the regular season, shining on the team's kickoff coverages Recorded five tackles for the year Recipient of three spring practice awards: Named Biggest Defensive Surprise of the Spring, Biggest Hit of the Spring and Outstanding Defensive Walk-On Recorded two tackles in annual spring G-Day game Team went 10-2 capped by an Outback Bowl victory 2003: Redshirted and key member of the scout team Named one of the Outstanding Scout Team Players Part of 10-3 SEC Eastern Division Championship team High School: Union County, coached by Brian Allison Alltel All-Star first team offense and defense in senior year as well as second team All Region Voted Defensive Team MVP in senior season Named Alltel first team defense and first team All-Region as a junior Named Alltel first team defense as a sophomore Voted Most Improved for baseball team in his final three seasons |
