Union County Lions at Georgia Mountain Fair

The Georgia Mountain Fair has come and gone for another year. The Union County Lions Club that operates a food and refreshment stand near the entrance to the carnival area considers this another successful year of raising funds for our numerous and varied projects.

The Fair is the club's largest fund raiser each year. In our fiscal year that ended June 30, 2007, we were able to provide 33 pairs of glasses and eye exams, shared the cost of a cochlea implant, arranged and paid for a cornea transplant, collected 926 pairs of used glasses and 266 singles lens, collected used hearing aids & cell phones, awarded annual scholarships to local high schools, purchased a Bioptic Visual device for a local student and donated several thousand dollars to other local community causes.

The old cell phones that are donated go to the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and are sold to an electronics recycling company where the proceeds help pay for sight saving surgeries for cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and detached retinas.

We are very grateful and Thank those who patronized our establishment at the Georgia Mountain Fair so that we can continue to provide the same services in the coming year .
