Burglaries plague Towns "People need to keep their eyes and ears open," said Investigator Robert Kern of the Towns County Sheriff's Office, "and report ANY suspicious behavior to the Sheriff's Office. "We've now had 25 burglaries and they're happening all over [Towns] County." The Sentinel was thanked for the article two weeks ago alerting residents about burglaries in the area. Kern said, "These thieves need to know people are watching and we hope they keep watching. Residents need to take down any license tags of strange vehicles and call our "hot line" at the Sheriff's Office, 706-896-3697, and you may stay anonymous on anything you report. At this point we have no one arrested, but we're working on the cases and investigating leads. They are now taking tools in addition to money and jewelry." A neighborhood watch is a great deterrent and often can catch those people doing unlawful things including burglaries, drugs, etc. Kern also said residents should record serial numbers of anything of value, these items are then easier to track down, and take photos of any jewelry, pictures, furniture pieces, etc. so the law can show them to pawn shops to identify them. |
