To the Editor:

I must tell you that I am so happy to be living here in Union County. My late husband and I moved here 17 years ago both for his health and so that I could get back to the mountains. We were so moved by the beauty of this country, the friendliness of the local people and the wonderfully clean air. There aren't many counties that offer hiking on the Appalachian Trail, a beautiful State Park and numerous waterfalls to enjoy.

No matter where you go, people are smiling and waving at you. If you need help, there are many that offer assistance without asking for any kind of payment. For instance, when we first bought our land, we were parked along the road so we could walk the land. Every vehicle that passed stopped to see if we needed help. Another time I had a flat tire and a lady and two gentlemen stopped to help me. And best of all, it is so nice not to breathe in pollution, and to be able to smell all the beautiful aromas of the wildflowers.

I truly appreciate everything about this wonderful and lovely community.
