Auctioneers to entertain at Folk School fundraiser

Brasstown, N.C. - Auctioneers Tim Ryan and Bob Grove plan to entertain an audience of art lovers and Folk School supporters at this year's Benefit Auction for John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown on Saturday, August 18.

More than 130 one-of-a-kind handcrafted items donated by instructors, students and friends of the Folk School will be auctioned, including pottery, ironwork, basketry, wood items, dolls, paintings, weavings, rugs, jewelry and furniture. Auction proceeds benefit the non-profit Folk School.

The annual fundraising event will be held from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in the Keith House on the Folk School's campus in Brasstown, with a preview of art available from 1:00pm to 2:00pm. A silent auction will also be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm.

Tim Ryan, returning for his sixteenth year of auctioneering the August event, said, "Auctions compress our emotions into an intense framework. Longing and fulfillment flash before us set in time with the auctioneer's chant. Such joy, such loss...how can the heart endure it? People won't want to miss this."

Of the creative and singular items to be auctioned, Bob Grove, long-time auctioneer and a former President of the Folk School's Board of Directors, stated, "The Benefit Auction offers you the privilege of acquiring a unique item of true artistic value while supporting the school at the same time. It's a win-win opportunity."

Jan Davidson, Director of the Folk School, will emcee the Benefit Auction.

A summer lunch buffet will be served from Noon to 1:30pm. Reservations are required for lunch and the cost of lunch is $12.00 per person. No reservations are required to attend the auction and admission to the auction is free.

John C. Campbell Folk School offers over 830 classes each year in traditional and contemporary craft, art, music, dance, cooking, gardening, nature studies, photography and writing. Founded in 1925, the Folk School is a national landmark on the National Registry of Historic Places. It features a Craft Shop, History Center, a regular concert series, community dances and nature trails.
