W. Horace Smith
Mr. Smith was born Oct. 9, 1927 in Bibb County, Ala., the son of the late Hugh Smith and the late Nora Levens Smith. He was a retired policeman and had served with the City of Denver for over 18 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines of WWII. One of his favorite hobbies was his garden and also loved to travel. Horace never met a stranger and was a friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Smith in 1995. Mr. Smith was a member of the Providence United Methodist Church. Surviving Mr. Smith is his loving wife of 39 years, Barbara Allen Smith of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Gil Slegl of Barnesville, Ga., Monica and Louis Brindisi of Grand Juction, Colo.; son and daughter in law, Erik and Amy Smith of Aurora, Colo.; brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Ramona Smith of Albany, Ga.; 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; many other relatives and friends also survive. Graveside services were held Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at 10 a.m. from the Providence United Methodist Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Gibson officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to Providence U.M.C. Cemetery fund in Mr. Smith's memory.
