Garnie Lee Abercrombie Mr. Garnie Lee Abercrombie, 83, of Blairsville, Ga., died Saturday, July 28, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Abercrombie was born Sunday, April 6, 1924 in Union County, Ga., to the late Charlie Abercrombie and the late Callie Harkins Abercrombie. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Abercrombie had worked as a farmer, a builder, a brick mason, and a cabinet maker. He was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He was preceded in death by sons, Jerry, Kenneth and Larry Abercrombie; sisters, Myrtle Burnette and Gertrude Thweatt; and brothers, John and Emory Abercrombie. Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Grace Abercrombie of Blairsville; grandson and wife, Barry and Jenny Abercrombie of Chatsworth, Ga.; granddaughter and husband, Melissa and Perry Groves of Blairsville; great granddaughters, Morgan and Savannah; great grandsons, John and Deacon; sister, Alma Little of Blairsville; and numerous other family and friends. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 29, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Don Hood and Rev. Scott McKechnie officiating. Music was provided by Brian Sosensky and Debbie Miller. Interment followed in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Perry Groves, Barry Abercombie, Bo Johnson, Herman Garrett, Bill Coker and Scott McKechnie. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Evans, Bobby Sexton, Clarence Gibson, Richard Morgan, Glenn Gooch, Jimmy Everett and Eugene McClure. Garnie will be missed by all who knew him. He will forever be remembered for his kindness and generosity. He truly touched the lives of all who knew him with his wonderful sense of humor.
