West Nile on the rise
Get rid of mosquito breeding places
By JOAN CROTHERS Sentinel Editor

This pond is a perfect breeding place for mosquitoes. It has no fresh water running in or fish to eat the mosquito larvae. Clean up places like this for your health and your neighbors.
According to the Georgia State Health Department, the mosquito population is on the rise due to recent rains, and mosquitoes carry and infect humans with the West Nile virus.

The health departments still trap and test mosquitoes and announced last week that they have discovered the virus in mosquitoes in Fulton County.

"We usually see the greatest number of cases in late August and early September, said Dr. Susan Lance of the Georgia Department of Health, "so people need to worry about mosquito-borne viruses and take precautions to protect themselves against mosquito bites."

Also check around your yard for standing water where they can breed. They only need a little collecting in tires, empty containers of any kind, etc. Look around and empty and clean up. The life you save may be yours.
