Cooking with Barbara
Praline Bars with Icing

When I was growing up, we used to sit on the porch of a girlfriend and play monopoly and other games. Her mother would always bring out a wonderful snack and Kool Aid. I think she made up this recipe as she often did. My family bought butter and eggs from her brother. She finally wrote the recipe down for me before she passed away. My friend has also gone away so I'm happy I still have it. If she didn't have chocolate covered raisins, she used chocolate chips and regular raisins. You could buy the chocolate raisins in a little box in the grocery store one block from her home. She called them Praline Bars.
Praline Bars and Icing
1 stick melted butter or
margarine
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
(light)
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups plain flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

2 tsps. vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup regular or chocolate covered
raisins

Instructions for bars:

Into melted butter, add brown sugar, 2 eggs, flour sifted with baking powder and salt, vanilla, nuts and raisins. Stir well and put into a well greased or sprayed 9x12 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes until a knife comes out clean. (If you don't have chocolate covered raisins you can add chocolate chips.)

Cool and spread on the Praline Icing.
