Dulcimers to be featured in Folk School Concert
The concert will be held in the Festival Barn, but those attending are urged to park near Keith House or the Dining Hall and walk to the Festival Barn where there will be only a limited number of handicapped parking spaces available. In the barn there is hay bale seating, so audience members may wish to bring a lawn chair or blanket for comfort. Admission is free. Bonnie Carol, Anne Lough, Jeff Sebens and Bill Taylor all perform throughout the country on both hammered and mountain dulcimers - two very different instruments that happen to share the same name. Bonnie Carol's music has filled concert halls form New York to Nicaragua over the last 28 years. She sings and plays hammered and mountain dulcimer as well as bodhrán, folk drums and hand percussion. A performance is likely to encompass traditional music from North and South America, the British Isles, Caribbean rhythms, and even Tex-Mex tunes. Anne Lough, from Clyde, NC, is a singer, performer, instructor and recording artist whose programs have delighted and inspired North Carolinians of all ages through the Mountain Arts Program and the North Carolina Arts Council Touring Artist Program. Anne performs on both the hammered and mountain dulcimers as well as guitar and autoharp. Jeff Sebens brings a varied educational background to his music. From early training in classical music to experience teaching history and industrial arts, he has melded these experiences into a love and appreciation for both the mountain and hammered dulcimers. He handcrafts a variety of musical instruments, as well as keeping an active schedule of music festivals, workshops, and Elderhostel courses. Bill Taylor is a versatile mountain dulcimer player, whose music ranges from bluegrass and old-time to jazz. For many years he performed at Dollywood and has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry. He is also one of the most respected builders of quality mountain dulcimers.
