Copper Door brings fine dining to the Hayesville Square
By TAYLOR LOTT Sentinel Guest Writer
Kudo's Chef/Owner Dennis Barber! The long awaited Copper Door is now open and alive with activity and great food.
I have awaited the opening of this great place for over a year as many have. Chef Dennis with all his many culinary skills was also the man power behind this well put together and very cozy restaurant.
He along with Jacqueline LeFevers of Square One Interiors have done a magnificent job of converting an old gas station and transformed it in to a place of beauty. Square One Interiors and Copper Door along with Cafe on the Square take up the block making a desirable appeal to all.
The Cafe offers many flavors of coffee brewed from fresh coffee beans served with fresh pastries and quiche or with luncheon specials.
The restaurant has a pleasant ambiance with rich colors and a fireplace in the center of the dining room making it a romantic place to dine. Nevertheless, it is the food, now that is the ultimate attraction.
Chef Dennis has a New Orleans flair and a menu sure to please most palettes.
Try his veal meatloaf with a wild mushroom sauce or his rack of lamb or other nightly specials. The vegetables are roasted and flavored to perfection.
There's a gumbo that you won't be able to resist every time you go there once you've tried it.
Did I mention the desserts. There's a saying, "Life is short, so eat your dessert first." And If you do, you'll not be disappointed. Still, I recommend against it at the Copper Door only because the main courses are so good.
But getting back to the desserts, you might want to try the Banana's Foster made and served tableside and a wonderful creme brulee. There are others, but I still haven't been able to resist this one so you'll have to experiment on you own.
At Copper Door, there are extended dinner hours., While most local restaurants close by 9 p.m.,, this new found bistro is a hit staying open until 10 p.m. through the week and 11 p.m. on the weekends. It's a plus for those of us who like to dine late, and for tourists accustomed to later hours.
If you have not been to Copper Door I recommend you make reservations and enjoy a night of fine dining in a romantic atmosphere.
If you are having lunch, you might want to stop by Square One and check out the great buys on fine furnishings from a very talented designer. All are open Tuesday- Saturday.
