James "Jim" E. Holbrooks Mr. James "Jim" E. Holbrooks, 86, of Blairsville, Ga., formerly of Ellijay, Ga., died Thursday, July 5, 2007, in Union General Hospital in Blairsville. Mr. Holbrooks was born July 24, 1920, to his parents, Sammuel and Mary Mason Holbrooks, in Union County, Ga. He was a member of the Baptist faith, a graduate of Gilmer County High School. A World War II veteran, he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre of War aboard the Aircraft Carrier U.S.S. Bon Homme Richard CV-31, as a seaman gunner 1st class. Mr. Holbrooks was a retired sawyer, and had been employed at Kiker Lumber Company. Surviving Mr. Holbrooks is his wife, Bobbie Lee Holbrooks of Blairsville; sons and daughters-inlaw, Earl and Debbie Holbrooks, and Carroll and Connie Holbrooks, all of Ellijay; grandchildren, Tammy H. Bowen of Fairmount, Ga., Christy H. Powell and Brandy H. McClure, both of Ellijay; six great grandchildren; step-children, Barbara Everett Free of Blairsville, Betty Everett Bishop of Fayetteville, Ga., and Wayne Everett of Blairsville; nine stepgrandchildren; and several step great and great great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2007 at 2 p.m., at Logan Funeral Home Chapel in Ellijay with Rev. Jerry Banks officiating. Interment was in Riverhill Baptist Cemetery with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers were Jamie Powell, John McClure, Shane Bowen, Oran Walker, Wayne Everett and Mark Ralston.
