Plant Tips
Prune your big leaf hydrangeas now The regular pink and the blue big leaf hydrangeas should be pruned between July 1 and August 1st. Dry flowers for indoor bouquets Cut different flowers with different textures and colors to keep for winter arrangements. Secure several stems with a rubber band or garbage bag tie and hang upside down in a dry place (garage, basement). Garlic blooms are also very good to dry for large containers and can be sprayed any color to fit your decor.
Butterfly bush Trim off the faded flower clusters and more flowers will bloom from side branches. In early spring this plant can be cut down to 6-8" above the ground for a more compact bush that blooms all summer.
Shasta daisies Butterflies love shasta daisies, so to keep them blooming longer, shear the plants back hard to encourage a second flush of blooms. They like lots of space , divide clumps about every two years.
