Narcotics Anonymous

Mountain Folks Group meets every Friday night at 8:00 p.m. at New Hope Fellowship Church, 1299 Old Blue Ridge Hwy., next to Byers Well Drilling and on Tuesday Night at 7 p.m. at the New Hope Treatment Facility. Road to Recovery

Are you a cancer patient? Do you need a ride to and from your treatment sessions? A lack of transportation should not be the reason why cancer patients do not receive the life-saving cancer treatment they need. The American Cancer Society offers their Road to Recovery program to help transport cancer patients to and from their treatment. The Society has a tollfree number that you may call, and an operator will put you in touch with local volunteers that give cancer patients without personal transportation rides to and from their cancer treatment sessions. Give them a call at 1-800-ACS-2345.

Bereavement Support Group

Welcome to a community bereavement support group. A place to share your thoughts and feelings and grow together with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

GWRRA meets

Chapter J of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) meets the third Saturday of each month at Daniel's Steak House in Hiawassee. Lunch is at 11 a.m. and the meeting is at noon.

We encourage current members of the GWRRA and anyone interested in becoming a member to join us. Guests are always welcome, and we look forward to seeing participants from other chapters. Misty Mountain Quilt Guild

Misty Mountain Quilt Guild of Georgia - North Carolina will have their bi-annual quilt show October 12 & 13, 2007 at North Georgia Technical School in Blairsville, Ga. In addition to the quilt show, you will have an opportunity to shop at our boutique full of handmade items or purchase quilting supplies from vendors.

There will also be a silent auction of fabulous mini-quilts. The drawing for our beautiful king size quilt, "Stars Over Georgia", will be held on the last day of the show. Pancake Breakfast

Allegheny Lodge No. 114 will hold a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, July 14 from 7-11 a.m. at the Allegheny Lodge on Rogers Street just off the square in Blairsville.

Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon and grits will be served for just $5, along with coffee, tea or milk.

Dyer-Souther Heritage Association Reunion

The annual Dyer-Souther Heritage Association Family Reunion will be an event of Saturday, July 14, 2007.

It will be held at Choestoe Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 180, just off US 129/19, eight miles south of Blairsville, GA.

Registration begins at 11:00 a. m. Attendees will share a covered dish meal at noon. The Reunion program follows at 1:00 p. m.

Descendants of early settlers to Choestoe Valley, Union County, Georgia who migrated there from Pendleton District, SC and from Wilkes County, NC in the 1830s are invited. The Dyer family early settlers were Elisha, Jr. and Elizabeth Clark Dyer and the Souther family early settlers were John and Mary "Polly" Combs Souther. Descendants of these pioneers still live in the valley, and many are scattered throughout America.

Bring food for your family to share in the bounteous meal at noon. Share information about your family genealogy and expect a good time at this notable reunion.

Homecoming at Sharp Memorial UMC

Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris, GA, will celebrate Homecoming Sunday on July 29, 2007 at both their 8:30 AM and 10:55 AM worship services. The Homecoming Speaker will be the Rev. Dr. James Ellison. After graduating from Young Harris College in 1988, Ellison earned a degree in religion from LaGrance College, a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology and Emory University, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Asbury Seminary. Dr. Ellison is the founding pastor of Providence UMC in Fayetteville, GA, a church which began in 1995 with eight families, and now has an average worship attendance of over 700! In June, 2007, he moved to Atlanta First UMC to begin serving in ministry there. He also chairs the Board of Church Development for the North Georgia Annual Conference. He is married to the former Beth Parrish and has two sons, William and Bennett. We invite you to come hear Dr. Ellison and meet old and new friends at Homecoming, 2007.

Prose Workshop Meets at Tri-County College

Writers for Children Workshop

The Writing for Children workshop will meet Wednesday, July 18, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Moss Memorial Library in Hayesville, N.C. The group meets regularly on the third Wednesday of the month. The focus of the workshop is poetry and stories for children and young adults. Support and advice is offered to writers. The Barak Norton Reunion will be held at the Whiteside Cove Community Building on Sunday, July 22, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. for their 137th annual meeting. The location is 7 miles south of Cashiers, N.C., by way of Hwy. 107S and Whiteside Cove Rd.; and 6 miles east of Highlands, N.C., by way of Horse Cove Rd.
