Union County celebrates Independence Day
By JARED PUTNAM Union Sentinel Editor

The 2007 Independence Day was marked by several annual activities unique to Union County.

This year's Nottley Marina Boat Parade featured more patriotic themes than last year's competition as children, adults, and family pets began a day on the lake with the contest.

While the drought caused some fireworks displays around the state to be cancelled, it did not hinder the shows here, as a fireworks display and other activities were held at both Suches and Meeks Park in Blairsville.

The park also hosted the Second Annual 'Ole Fashioned Games. Children competed in events such as the sack race and the frisbee toss before entering the watermelon-eating contest and getting sprayed down by fire trucks.
