New England Contra Dance Musicians

David Kaynor, Susan Conger, Susie Secco and Peter Siegel will be featured in a free concert of New England contra dance music at The John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. at 7:30 pm on Friday, July 13. The concert will be held in the Festival Barn, but those attending are urged to park near Keith House or the Dining Hall and walk to the Festival Barn.

New England contra dance music is a joyful blend of Irish, Scottish and French Canadian jigs reels and hornpipes, Appalachian hoedowns, Scandinavian couple dance tunes and beautiful waltzes. The performers all hail from western Massachusetts which is considered one of the epicenters of traditional contra dance music. Fiddlers David Kaynor and Susan Conger and pianist Susie Secco are all members of the group Three Good Reasons a popular New England contra dance band. They are joined by Peter Siegel on guitar, banjo and mandolin, who along with David Kaynor is also a member of the Greenfield Dance Band which plays for the popular contra dances at the Guiding Star Grange in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
