Habitat for Humanity annual meeting

Habitat for Humanity of Towns/Union Counties held their Annual Meeting Thursday June 21st and is pleased to announce the newly elected officers for fiscal year 2007 beginning July 1, 2007. They are Bob Hiler, President, Elizabeth Lashley, Vice President, Emily Price, Secretary and Larry Mancini, Treasurer.

Ralph Kwiatkowski, President the past two years, expressed his appreciation for the support given him by the existing officers, Bill Logan, VP, Jayne Robertiello, Sec., and Larry Mancini, Treasurer, as well as all of the other Board members, Elois Anderson, Denise Ashworth, Jimmie Sue Easter, Bob Hiler, Robert Head III, Mary Lynne Kimsey, Elizabeth Lashley, Anne Sorrelle, Bobbi Tower, and Doug Triestram.

The Board also welcomes the following new members which have joined the Board this spring; Emily Price, Gwendolyn Christian, Chet Ford, Alison Smith, and Derrick Whittle. The new members are well versed in banking and real estate, and are extremely enthusiastic about Habitat's Mission. We are looking forward to an exciting year.

Kudos also go out to the special volunteers who have given so much of their time to man the office on a weekly basis. Without their dedication, many functions would not get accomplished. Thank you Elsie Felix, Candi Mancini, Barbara Shick and Anne Sorrelle.

A special thank you also goes out to Nancy Triestram, who has worked very hard working on and obtaining a grant the past three years from the United Methodist Homeless Council. Nancy has also been active in the past on the Fund Raising committee.

Habitat for Humanity is not a 'give away' program but a 'hand up' for a needy family . All participants are hard working folks and are offered a noninterest mortgage which must be paid back to Habitat. The working family must also agree to "partner' with Habitat in promoting the Habitat mission.

The Habitat Board meets the third Thursday of month at the Young Harris Public Library. Volunteers are needed for several of the committees, especially church relations and fund raising. Obtaining affordable property is also of major concern. If you would like to help, please call the office Monday, Wednesday or Friday between 9 and 11 AM at 706- 379-2484.
