Annual Piano Recital

The annual piano recital of students from the studio of Jackie Hutson was held on Saturday, June 9, 2007, at Choestoe Baptist Church in Blairsville. After the performance, awards were presented for events of this year's accomplishments.

In February, students participating in Greater Marietta MTAs Solo Festival were Rachel Todd, Reagan Hooper, Irenee Payne, Joseph Fowler, Kayla Fowler, Megan Walker and Wilson Harmon. All received Superior ratings.

In March, the 9th district Solo/Ensemble Festival was held at Truett McConnell College in Cleveland, Ga. Each student performed a required selection form the Romantic period and a contrasting piece from the Baroque or Classical era, with required scales and cadences. Each student sight-read a selection and performed a duet. Those attending and their ratings were: Irenee Payne I+, I, I+; Rachel Todd I, I, I; Reagan Hooper I, I, I; Megan Walker I-, I, I+; Hunter Hughes I, II, II; James Rowe II, I, I; Erica Bunpermkoon II, I, I; Kayla Fowler II, I, I; Terah Hooper II, I, II; and Wilson Harmon II, I, II. (Excellent is II and Superior is I.)

At the NEGMTA auditions at North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega, Ga., five students were chosen to play at State (March 2007): 4th grade - Rachel Todd; 5th grade - Reagan Hooper; 6th grade - Joseph Fowler; 7th grade - Wilson Harmon and 12th grade - Kayla Fowler.

Rachel, Reagan, Wilson and Kayla performed in May at the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga., for GMTA auditions.

All five audition students did a Theory Test in March. Outstanding Theorist was earned by Rachel Todd (Level A); Excellence in Theory by Wilson Harmon (Level B); Achievement in Theory by Reagan Hooper (Level A); and Achievement in Theory by Kayla Fowler (Level D).

Having goals to achieve made this year very productive and rewarding.
