Young Harris College Clay Dotson Open Golf Tournament a Success The annual Young Harris College Clay Dotson Open Golf Tournament, held Monday, May 7 at Brasstown Valley Resort, was successful in providing a day of enjoyment for approximately 200 golfers as well as securing much needed scholarship support for deserving students. Proceeds from sponsor donations, player fees, silent auction items, and individual cash donations reached over $100,000 and after expenses will add just shy of $80,000 to student scholarships. Two shotguns were held again this year. First and second place prizes were awarded for overall low gross and low net in both shotguns as well as prizes for longest drive, closest to pins 5 and 10, and longest drive. Winning teams for the first shotgun were: First place low net: Cary Cox, Lamar Paris, Andy Ladd, and Larry Garrett; Second place low net: Frank Shores, Scott Jones, Gariel Hollingsworth, and Ania Gawronska playing for All Shore Flooring; First place low gross: Hank Focke, Rich Focke, Chris Calvert, and Larry Focke playing for Horizon Housing Team 1; Second place low gross: Don Grant, Mike Grant, Tom Platford, and Chuck Steele playing for Horizon Housing Team 2; Men's longest drive was awarded to Jay Stubblefield; Women's longest drive was awarded to Anne Shurley; Closest to pin 5 was awarded to Mike Grant; Closest to pin #10 was awarded to Frank Shores.
