North Georgia Rapids Swim Team

"The Blue Ridge Mountain Fitness Club's swim team, the North Georgia Rapids, participated in a large swim meet involving nine teams this past weekend. This meet was designed for the more experienced swimmers, requiring all participants to compete in all five events. The "Rapids" sent just three swimmers, Tanner Gay, Anna Knight and Courtney Marshall and all performed outstandingly.

Anna and Courtney having recently aged up to the next older age group, competed against over forty swimmers in the girls 11 and 12 age group. Courtney lowered her times in all five of her events, with her best finish being a 7th place in the 50 yd. backstroke. Anna also set her personal best times in all five of her races and finished fifth overall for the age group. An outstanding performance by both young swimmers.

Tanner, competing in the boys 12 and under, had three personal best times, with his best finish being a second in the 50 yd. butterfly. Tanner finished the day being ranked third overall in the age group.

The team will be extremely busy over the next several weeks by competing in four major swim meets in the region. The entire team will be hard at practice in preparation for these events and for several new swimmers this will be their first competition. The coach is confident that these young swimmers will do well as the team continues to expand its membership.
