RAINER'S RAMBLINGS
The Scottish Festival
By RAINER ARNOLD Union Sentinel Publisher

I attended the Rotary Meeting of the Lake Chatuge- Hiawassee Rotary Club on Tuesday and the guest speaker was Joe Satterfield. And, he spoke of his involvement with the Scottish Festival and Highland Games.

Satterfield, the head of the Blue Ridge Mountain EMC was at ease in front of these Rotarians as he showed a slide presentation of a past Scottish Festival.

The Festival encompasses a large number of people and even has a budget of about $75,000. Now, that is not to say that the people who attend do not leave some of their money in Union County. So, this festival helps our local economy and is supported by residents.

The festival will have a golf tournament on Friday and Friday night there will be a big party at North Georgia Tech. On Saturday and Sunday the festivities will be at Meeks Park, which, according to Satterfield is one of the finest venues for such an event.

There will be over 40 Scottish Clans represented and they will participate in athletic events, bag piping and arts and crafts. There will be children's games, demonstrations, exhibits, dancing and if you want to wear a kilt, the traditional Scottish outfit this is your opportunity to do so. Thus, if you have nothing important planned for this weekend, go to the festival and enjoy yourself.
