Reece Society Annual Meeting

The fourth annual meeting of the Byron Herbert Reece Society will be held on the Young Harris Collegecampus on Saturday, June 9, 2007. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. in the Wilson Lecture Hall of theGoolsby Building and will be followed by a delicious buffet luncheon in the College dining hall.

This year's keynote speaker is Philip Lee Williams, a noted Georgia author who has produced nine novels and several works of non-fiction and as a poet has been published in over 40 magazines. He will speak on the topic, "Remembering a Man I Never Met."

Books by and about Reece will be available for purchase, as well as tee shirts and denim shirts featuring the Society logo.

Major reports citing Society activities will be given during the meeting, including an update on the development of the Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Heritage Center and plans for acknowledging Reece's 90th birthday during the Georgia Literary Festival to be held in Blue Ridge in late September. A very special presentation by members of the Reece in the Schools Committee will inform those present of the accomplishments to date and plans for future activities of this dedicated group of area teachers.

During the business session, directors of the Society for 2007-08 will be nominated and elected.

The cost for registration and the luncheon is $20. Registration only will be $10. Area residents who wish to attend can register in the lobby of Goolsby beginning at 9:00 a.m. Those wishing to share in the luncheon should contact Society Chair John Kay at (706) 379-3219 no later than Friday, June 1.

All persons interested in promoting the literary and cultural legacies of Byron Herbert Reece, Georgia's Appalachian Poet/Novelist, are encouraged to attend this meeting and become a member of the Reece Society. An opportunity for joining will be provided at this meeting.
