Barker Brothers Bluegrass in Brasstown Continuing with the "youth movement" theme, this week's traditional music concert brings the Barker Brothers to the Brasstown Community Civic Center on Saturday night, May 26. Jeremy (age 17) and Jonathan (age 13) Barker are known in this area as accomplished musicians, performing bluegrass standards as well as their own original material. Jeremy plays guitar, brother Jonathan plays banjo, while parents, Angie and Scott, play upright bass and mandolin, respectively. Recently, The Barkers have added a young fiddle player, Miss Katherine Moose, from Robbinsville, NC, to add a little high tenor bluegrass feel to their traditional family harmony. The Barker Brothers have performed at festivals all around the southeast with fellow performers J.D. Crowe and the New South, IIIrd Tyme Out, Honi Deaton and Dream, and The Larkins They have opened for several major entertainers, including Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys and The Lonesome River Band. Television and radio credits include performances on stations in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia, and a PBS documentary on bluegrass for the state of Florida which aired in 2005. Traditional music can be heard at the Brasstown Community Civic Center on the second and fourth Saturdays of warm weather months. Air conditioned comfort, and a snack bar with hot dogs, desserts, and soft drinks add to the enjoyment. Concert time is 7:00 PM; doors open at 6:30 PM. Ticket price is $4.00 for adults, with children 12 and under free. The Brasstown Community Civic Center is located on Settawig Road in beautiful Brasstown, NC. |
