Road to Recovery

Are you a cancer patient? Do you need a ride to and from your treatment sessions? A lack of transportation should not be the reason why cancer patients do not receive the life-saving cancer treatment they need. The American Cancer Society offers their Road to Recovery program to help transport cancer patients to and from their treatment. The Society has a toll-free number that you may call, and an operator will put you in touch with local volunteers that give cancer patients without personal transportation rides to and from their cancer treatment sessions. Welcome to a community bereavement support group. A place to share your thoughts and feelings and grow together with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

GWRRA meets

Chapter J of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) meets the third Saturday of each month at Daniel's Steak House in Hiawassee. Lunch is at 11 a.m. and the meeting is at noon.

We encourage current members of the GWRRA and anyone interested in becoming a member to join us. Guests are always welcome, and we look forward to seeing participants from other chapters. There are great rides coming up and we hope many of you will join us.

Union County Alzheimer's & Dementia Support Group- New Location

This Alzheimer's Support Group provides interaction, information and inspiration for family members and

caregivers in a confidential and supportive environment. This support group is affiliated with the Alzheimer's Association. Regency Hospice announces Men's Morning Coffee Group at Mary Ann's Restaurant.

Beginning Guitar Lessons

Mother and Son Picnic

The 1st Annual Mother and Son Picnic at the Park will be held Saturday, May 19 at Meeks Park Pool/Paris Field/McAfee Field from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The cost is $30 per couple and it's $10 each for additional son or mother.

There will be lunch, five inflatables, obstacle course, inflatable slip and slide, free admission to the pool, fire truck, ambulance, police cars, tractors, live DJ and much more!

Ga. Mtn. Writers Club

We meet 10 a.m. to noon the second Wednesday of the month at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church on the Young Harris Highway. Our next meeting will be May 9th.

We have no membership dues or elected officers and meet to share our writings and provide helpful criticism, inspiration, motivation and encouragement to each other.

Everyone is welcome. You do not have to be a writer - just visit and enjoy listening to readings and discussion. You will be entertained - and maybe acquire a new interest.

Enchanted Music on the Square

The 2007 Season of Enchanted Music on the Square will begin Saturday evening, May 26 from 6-8 p.m. Anyone who wishes to participate as a contestant in the Towns County Idol competition should call Mardi White 706-896-4988. All are welcome, from far or near! Ist prize for adults is $200. First prize for kids (ages 14 and under) is $100. Idol competitors will be introduced in person at the May 26 concert and will each perform one song of their choice. Look for concert schedules and posters at area businesses by May 15. Good Neighbors Auto Club meeting

The next meeting of the Good Neighbors Auto Club will be Thursday, May 17 at Meeks Park in Blairsville, GA. Come early to fellowship and enjoy our pot luck dinner. Members are asked to bring a dish to share. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. Members and the general public are encouraged to come and share your love of the car hobby.

You do NOT have to own a vehicle to join or attend our meetings. If you have an old car or truck that been restored or modified or a new vehicle that has been modified, you are welcome to come to our meetings. We meet the third Thursday of each month. Each month we donate to a charity. Last month's charity was to a Trust at United Community Bank for Michael Kapler's daughter's college fund.

UC Elementary Young Author's Festival

You are invited to celebrate Union County's young authors on Saturday, May 19 at Union County Elementary School from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Students will read their published books and awards will be presented. There will be food and fun for all. Blow up slides, cotton candy, etc. How much better can it get? Please come out to support our youth and enjoy yourself at the same time.
