Want to help someone along the Road to Recovery?

Sometimes the biggest challenge in cancer treatment is getting there. Let the Road to Recovery help!

Every day, thousands of cancer patients need a ride to a medical facility to treatment sessions. A lack of transportation should not be the reason cancer patients do not receive the life-saving cancer treatments they need. The American Cancer Society offers the Road to Recovery program to help transport cancer patients to and from their treatments. Trained volunteers donate their time and vehicles. Volunteer drivers for the American Cancer Society must:

*own a safe and reliable vehicle

*have a current , valid driver's license

* have proof of adequate auto insurance

* have a good driving record

* attend a Road to Recovery volunteer training

To request a ride, patients may call the American Cancer Society's toll free number at 1- 800-ACS-2345 and an operator will put them in touch with local Road to Recovery volunteers.

The Union County Relay For Life teams are working to add volunteers to our local resource listing. If you might be interested in becoming a qualified Road to Recovery volunteer in our area, please contact Angela Puleo at toll free 877-877-7479. When we have at least 5 interested volunteers our local Relay For Life volunteers will set up a convenient training session so that more Road to Recovery volunteers can join the fight against cancer.

The American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by saving lives, diminishing suffering and preventing cancer through education, research, advocacy, and service. Visit the organization's web site at www.cancer. org for more information.
