GA District 6910 Conference in Sandestin, Fla.
By GREG LANGSTON

Several members from the Union County Rotary Club set sail to Sandestin, Fla., recently to take part in the District 6910 conference that was held at the beautiful Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

The group joined together with 400 plus Rotarians from District 6910 that consists of 66 clubs in the north, northeast, and eastern part of Georgia for fun, fellowship, and to learn more about Rotary. The presentations on community, national, and international projects were from local clubs as well as international clubs.

The Rotarians from District 6910 heard many great speakers throughout the 3 day seminar along with great entertainment from live bands and comedians. A Hospitality suite was provided by Union County Rotary Club.

Many great stories were shared from club members about individual club goals and service projects achieved this past year, along with goals and plans for the upcoming year.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provide humanitarian services, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps to build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.

Georgia is the only state in the United States that has a student exchange program with other countries. GRSP (Georgia Rotary Student Program) had 75 students that participated in the program this year. The students were from many different countries and cultures including; Sweden, Scotland, Denmark, and Turkey just to name a few. Each of the students in the program received a scholarship to attend a college or university in the state of Georgia for 1 year. Some of the colleges that the students attended include, Young Harris College, University of Georgia, Brenau University, and North Georgia College.

The GRSP students gave a surreal farewell to all the Rotarians at the district conference. These students will be heading back to their prospective countries with many stories and reports of their experience in the United States from the past 9 to 10 months. All the students thanked Rotary for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Rotarians enjoyed meeting new members as well as long time members and friends during the conference event.

Each member of the Union County Rotary Club benefited and enjoyed the great programs and speakers at the conference and plan to attend next years conference in Athens, Ga., with excitement.
