Sammy Walker to perform at Folk School
Sammy Walker was born in Norcross, GA and began singing, playing guitar, writing songs and performing around Atlanta and Athens as a teenager. In 1975 he moved to New York and recorded an album of his songs (produced by Phil Ochs) for the Folkways label. The following year he signed a contract with Warner Brothers Records and recorded two albums for them. The Folkways and Warner Brothers recordings have been reissued in Japan. In 1986 Sammy Walker began a series of successful European tours and recorded two albums for the Swiss recording company, Branbus. In 1996 He and his family moved to Hayesville, NC. Four of Sammy's songs were recently released by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings as part of a 5 CD boxed set entitled The Best of Broadside. The anthology includes songs by Bob Dylan, Janis Ian, Phil Ochs, Malvina Reynolds, Buffy Sainte-Marie , Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger. Upcoming concert series performers at the Folk School include Ted Cooley (June 1) and One Leg Up (June 8).
