Household Hints
(cut & save)

Household Hints .Save cardboard tubes from the center of paper towel rolls. Slit them down one side and install them on the crossbars of wire clothes hangers. Tape them closed. Now you have hangers that will not crease slacks and pants.

.When you have to remove the aerator screen from a kitchen or bathroom faucet for clearing, run the hot water for a few minutes first. To get a grip on it, use a piece of thin rubber such as a shower cap or piece of an old hot water bottle. Never use pliers -that will score the chrome. Before you replace the screen, work some soap into the screw threads, it will come off easier next time.

.A cheaper way to clean copper-bottom pots is to use a paste solution of baking soda and water. Rub lightly!

.Saggy cane seat? Sponge it with hot water and let it dry. The cane will tighten as the water evaporates and shrink back closer to its original shape.

.When peeling hard-boiled eggs, put a few drops of oil into some water. Crack the eggs and let them stand in the mixture for a few minutes. They will then peel easily.

.To make sure your cupcakes are all the same size, use a measuring cup to scoop the batter into the cups.

.Recipes will bake up better if your eggs are at room temperature. No time? Place the eggs in a bowl of warm water for 10 minutes.

.For extra flavor on fried chicken, dip the pieces in ranch dressing instead of milk before coating with breadcrumbs.

.Measure any dry ingredients, such as flour, over wax paper. If any is spilled, fold up the paper and pour it back into the container.

.Before making meringue, wipe the powl and beaters with a cloth dipped in vinegar-it will remove any fat, so the whites beat up as high and fast as possible.

.Store scallions in the fridge in a glass with just enough water to cover the roots. Change water every other day, and they'll stay fresh twice as long.
