The art of photography

Saturday, May 5, The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association opens a fascinating photography exhibit, the works of the nationally known artist Kevin Nickell. A nature lover at heart, Kevin walked the Georgia mountain trails since he was a youngster, enjoying the everchanging beauty of the landscape. After picking up a simple Kodak "aim-andshoot" camera, Kevin knew what he wanted to do with his life: photographing the American landscape.

So Nickell decided to break away from home, left Marietta for the boldness of the Colorado Rockies and with his first "real" camera, a 35mm Nikon, he caught the drama of this different landscape even more professionally.

Kevin moved to Denver where he attended the Colorado Art Institute. He felt he had to continue his photography education closer to home and finished at the Savannah College of Art. In 2001 Kevin was offered the position of staff photographer with the world famous Ansell Adams Gallery in Yosemite National Park. It was there where he worked with many of America's experimenting photographers and where Kevin developed his own unique style.

To celebrate Kevin Nickell's show, the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association invites everyone to the opening reception at the Art Center, Saturday, May 5, from 4-6 pm. The Boomers will play their exciting music outside on the portico from 4-7 pm, starting with the music of the 70s up to today's favorites. Admission is free and everybody is invited to come to the BRMAA Street Dance on West Main.
