Harvey coming to Peacock

Director Vianne Payne returns to the Peacock Playhouse to direct the timeless classic, HARVEY. Payne has a deft touch with comedies and has brought much laughter to the Playhouse over the years. Some of her former productions are: DEARLY DEPARTED, THE ODD COUPLE, GOD'S FAVORITE, ALONE TOGETHER, and THE FOREIGNER. She has also entertained audiences here with her acting in TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL and OUR TOWN to name two.

HARVEY should be a perfect vehicle for her. This play is a funny, sweet story about gentle, kind Elwood P. Dowd whose best friend is Harvey. The only problem is that Harvey's a six foot rabbit that only he can see. Elwood's sister and her daughter get tired of being embarrassed and decide he must be committed. Only things don't go as anyone plans and the audience can decide who is really crazy.

Payne has assembled a fine cast. Wayne Roshaven of Blairsville is the "never met a stranger he didn't like" Elwood P. Dowd. Virginia Mattox of Murphy is his sister, Veta Louise Simmons, Michelle Stewart of Franklin is her daughter, Myrtle Mae Simmons. Janice Minnette of Hiawassee returns to the stage as Ruth Kelly, RN. David Spivey plays William R. Chumley, MD and Kay Thomas plays his wife, Betty. BJ McFalls plays Mrs. Chauvenet, Tom Payne plays Judge Gaffney, and Micah Robinson plays R.J. Lofgren. Newcomer to the Peacock Playhouse is Chris Evans of Franklin who plays Lyman Sanderson, MD.

The play will run May 18- 20 and 25-27. Evening performances begin at 8PM with Sunday matinees at 2:30. Tickets are $13 for adults and $8 for students. The show is rated PG.
