Hammond to perform at Folk School

Internationally acclaimed singer and mountain dulcimer player Lorraine Hammond will be featured in a free concert at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, N.C. on Friday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in the Keith House Community Room where the public is welcome to enjoy a public exhibition of Folk School student crafts from 6:40 - 7:00 p.m

Lorraine Hammond was raised in rural northwestern Connecticut during a period when traditional music was a vibrant and integrated part of community life. As a teenager she was encouraged to play the mountain dulcimer by Ed Canby, who first recorded Kentucky singer and dulcimer player Jean Ritchie, and by Vermont folksinger Margaret MacArthur. Hammond has played, performed, taught, written and recorded for three decades. She is a leading proponent of the mountain dulcimer and teaches classes at the Augusta Heritage Center in West Virginia, Summer Acoustic Music Week in New Hampshire and the John C. Campbell Folk School. Hammond is also a highly skilled songwriter, banjo player and Celtic harpist with numerous recordings to her credit.

Upcoming concert series performers at the Folk School include the Brasstown Ringers (May 11) and Sammy Walker (May 18).

The Friday night concert schedule is available on the world wide web at: http://www.folkschool.org. For further information call the Folk School at 828-837-2775 or 1- 800-FOLK-SCH.
