Panthers down to the home stretch
By JARED PUTNAM Union Sentinel Editor
The 2007 baseball season is in the home stretch.

Chaiz George fires a pitch during the Panthers first meeting with Fannin County.
Literally.

The Panthers play the final two games of the regular season at home this week, with a Thursday matchup against Banks County and a date with Fannin County on Friday.

According to Panthers Head Coach Robby Roxbury, the team needs to win both games to make the playoffs as an uncontested number four seed. A split would leave the Panthers tied for fourth place. A pair of losses would mean no postseason at all.

"Right now we're sitting outside looking in," Coach Roxbury said. "We need to win these two anyway. I don't want it to come down to a coin toss. But we've dug this grave, so we are going to have to fight our way out or go home."

The coach said that the team has made big improvements over last season, and is a much better team that the record shows, but they have to avoid that one disastrous inning that has plagued them so much this season.

"We have a chance to win both of these games," the coach said. "We can beat both teams."
