Historical Society needs volunteers

The Union County Historical Society is growing and needs your help at the Old Courthouse and the Mountain Life Museum. This is an excellent opportunity for locals and newcomers to learn more about the area's mountain heritage and to get involved and meet others in the community.

Volunteers are needed to assist with museum operations; serving as greeters and hosts to museum visitors; for special projects, from baking a cake to moving a barn; and for special events such as the Mountain Marketplace and Bluegrass Festival.

A volunteer orientation and reception will be held Tuesday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grapelle Butt Mock House, one block south of the Old Courthouse. This will give prospective volunteers the chance to meet Historical Society staff, view the restored 1906 house, and discuss duties and scheduling.

All interested members of the community are invited to participate in the Historical Society and its volunteer opportunities. Volunteers are encouraged but not required to be members of the Historical Society.

For more information, contact the Historical Society at 706-745-5493 or history1@windstream.net.
