'Hurricane' hits Hebron
Carter's clutch kick lifts Panthers
By JARED PUTNAM Union Sentinel Editor

Coming off a 1-0 loss to the Athens Academy Spartans, the Panthers varsity soccer team had their postseason fate riding on the final regular season game against the Hebron Christian Academy Lions.

With the score tied 1-1 and only five minutes left in the game, senior Cason "The Hurricane" Carter broke the stalemate by punching one through against a Lions defense that had held strong throughout the contest. The goal gave the Panthers a 2-1 win.

Hebron played a very conservative game, often seemingly using stall tactics to keep the Panthers at bay.

Union scored first on a kick from Michael 'The Flash' Myrick, taking a 1-0 lead into the half. Hebron drew even early in the second half, where the score remained until Carter's kick went in.

While their postseason fate is still up in the air, the win likely means that the team will head into the state tournament as a no. 3 or no. 4 seed.
