Donna's Day: Creative family fun
Egg-citing Easter Egg Decorating
By Donna Erickson

As I grabbed a fresh carton of eggs off the shelf at the grocery store the other day, I overheard a child next to me asking his mom the age-old question, "Which really DID come first, the chicken or the egg?" He pondered a moment and continued: "There had to be an egg to be a chicken. But there had to be a chicken to be an egg. Or did there?"

While your kids contemplate the "which came first" question, they can have lots of fun and express their creativity with these inexpensive, simpleto create egg-decorating ideas. Unlike most craft activities, this one is "cheap" by the dozen.

Hop to it and gather a few hard-cooked eggs, prepared edible dyes in small bowls and a variety of household items. You'll be amazed at what you can design with simple materials.

RUBBER-BAND TIEDYE

Wind two or three rubber bands of various widths around an egg. Be sure the rubber bands are snug. Dye the egg and let dry. Remove the rubber bands to reveal the cool designs.

SPECIAL MESSAGES

Print a name or message on the egg with a wax crayon. For example, "Hoppy Easter." When egg is dyed, the words will show.

Safety note: Refrigerate decorated eggs in the carton until ready to eat.
