Volunteer Day at Vogel State Park

Vogel State Park
For the past 12 years, the staff has watched the leaves of fall turn to the snow filled days of winter with winter turning into the bright sunny days of spring. During the snow filled days of winter, the staff ties up loose ends from the past summer and gets ready for the next fun-filled season. The winter is when the staff dreams of projects to complete before the summer. Some of these dreams fade away with the snow while others flourish with the spring flowers. The dreams that flourish would not happen if it weren't for Volunteer Day. This is when volunteers from around the state come together for one Saturday to get rid of the winter mess and make everything fresh for the spring. This year marks the 12th Volunteer Day to be held on April 14.

Over the past 11 Volunteer Days, the park has planned many different joint projects for the volunteers to be involved in. These projects include beach clean-up, mulching, adding more bricks to our memory walkway, campsite construction, staining, and other general park cleanup projects. Everyone is invited to come and participate in this year's event. Volunteer Day at Vogel is a great way to meet new people and have fun with old friends.

The Volunteer Day festivities will begin at 7 a.m. with breakfast being served till 8 a.m. in the Group Shelter. Work will begin shortly thereafter and lunch at noon. With lunch ending around 1 p.m., the Group Shelter will be transformed to the Vogel Muddy Trail Cafe.

Vogel is the second oldest state park in Georgia. With its rich history, dating back to 1927, we want to maintain the park for our future generations. Please think about giving a day to help maintain the park history.

If you would like to participate, please call the park office at 706-745-2628.

Vogel State Park is operated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and is located 11 miles south of Blairsville on U.S. Hwy. 19/129. For more information call the park office.
