Life-Guard classes offered at YHC

Alife-guarding class will be offered at Young Harris College March 23 - April 1. Those successfully completing the course, adequately demonstrating all skills, and satisfactorily completing all written tests, will receive certification in lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR Pro.

Requirements to enter the course include the following:

You must be at least 15 years old at the beginning of the class. You must be able to swim 10 laps using the Freestyle and Breaststroke. You must be able to tread water for 5 minutes. You must be able to touch the bottom of a 12-foot pool, retrieve a 10-lb brick, and swim 25 yards using only your legs.

The cost for the course is $175.00. Books and rescue equipment will be provided for the course. Instruction in the pool will begin on the first day of class. Please arrive prepared to swim.

The course will be taught by Deborah Courtney. Ms. Courtney, professor of education and physical education at Young Harris College, is an American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor trainer certified through the Northeast Georgia Chapter. Courtney has been a Lifeguard Instructor in Georgia for 19 years.

Classes will meet according to the following schedule:

Friday, March 23 from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, March 25 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 30 from 3:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 1, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
