ICL Announces Spring Courses at YHC

The Institute for Continuing Learning (ICL) at Young Harris College has announced an exciting lineup of courses and seminars for the spring term beginning the week of April 2. Many of the offerings are open to non-members and some are also free of charge. The entire curriculum will be previewed on Thursday, March 22, at 1:30 pm in the Wilson Lecture Hall on the College campus. Everyone is invited to attend.

VIDEOS TO EDUCATE AND ENTERTAIN - Mondays from 1 to 3 PM for 4 weeks beginning April 2 - videos include the Gene Kelly movie "Singing in the Rain," "Founding Fathers: The Men Who Shaped our Nation and Changed the World," "Richard Rodgers - The Sweetest Sounds," and the John Wayne movie "The Quiet Man." (no fee and open to non-members) HOUSING FOR BLUEBIRDS, led by Vickie Shirey - Tuesday from 10 am to 2 PM for 1 week on April 3 - learn to build two types of bluebird houses. MASK MAKING, led by Richard Aunspaugh - Tuesdays from 1 to 3 PM for 6 weeks

REGIONAL ITALIAN RECIPES, led by Andre Moschetto - Tuesdays from 2 - 4 PM for 4 weeks beginning April 3 - learn the basic techniques of classic Italian recipes. VERDI'S LA TRAVIATA, led by Elizabeth Brackin - Tuesday from 4:15 - 6:15 PM for 1 week on April 10 - explore the grandeur of Verdi, then travel to Asheville on April 11 to see a dress rehearsal of the opera.. THE HUMAN VOICE, MAN'S FIRST MUSICAL INSTRUMENT, led by Jeff Bauman - Wednesday from 1 - 3 PM for 1 week on April 25 - a discussion of the evolution of vocal style. THE HEALING POWER OF STORY, led by Diane Rooks - Wednesday from 2 - 4 PM for 1 week on April 4 - listen to stories and learn to create and share your own. (open to nonmembers) JOURNEY THROUGH COMEDY, led by Edie Kleinpeter - Wednesdays from 3:15 - 5:15 PM for 6 weeks beginning April 25 - discuss and compare comedy from Plautus to Neil Simon. WAR OF 1812, led by Dr. James Hale - Thursdays from 1 - 3 PM for 4 weeks beginning April 5. AGAINST ALL ODDS, led by Dr. James Hale - Thursdays from 1 - 3 PM for 4 weeks beginning May 3 - examine historic battles and what motivates soldiers to make heroic stands. INTERMEDIATE DRAWING, led by Jacqueline Goldman - Thursdays from 3:15 - 5:15 PM for 8 weeks beginning April 5 - an introduction to various techniques with different mediums. TRAVEL FOR CHEAPSKATES - Fridays from 1 - 3 PM for 8 weeks beginning April 6 - view vacation photos from all over the world. (no fee and open to non-members) ANTIQUING FOR PLEASURE OR PROFIT, led by Bill & Carol Duckworth - Friday from 3:15 - 5:15 PM for 1 week on April 27 - explore the joys of antiquing. (no fee and open to non-members) WILDFLOWERS II - SPRING, led by Elaine Delcuze - Saturdays from 10 AM - Noon for 8 weeks beginning April 7 - study the native flora of the Southern Blue Ridge..
