Yard sale benefiting Whiskers Project

A yard sale is being held by Whiskers Project volunteers from Towns and Union counties. The yard sale will be held on March 23 and 24 at the Blairsville Ingles lawn from 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. If it rains, the rain date will be March 30 and 31. All donations and proceeds will help prevent the suffering of hundreds of unwanted homeless cats.

The Whiskers Project is a non profit organization with the mission of reducing the overpopulation of feral cats. Outdoor cats are humanely trapped and treated by a veterinarian who administers rabies vaccinations, sterilization, and tips the ear for identification purposes. One hundred percent of all money raised goes to the mission of sterilizing feral cats to stop the endless cycle of reproduction, rabies vaccinating and helping find homes for homeless kittens. Many loving volunteers devote endless hours to helping improve the lives of local cats.

The Whiskers Project has just begun its fifth year of operations in Towns and Union Counties. During 2006, 134 cats were sterilized and rabies vaccinated. Once treated all treated cats are returned to their outdoor homes and cared for by their loving caretakers.

The Whiskers Project really needs your help. Project Coordinator, Victoria Linsley, said "our program can only continue with financial support from the community and through fundraisers. Every dollar that is donated to the Whiskers Project goes toward reducing the overpopulation of cats. No volunteer or officer receives any compensation for their many hours of helping people who help cats."

The Whiskers Project has a goal of sterilizing 600 cats. The trap, neuter, return program has proven to work. Ms. Linsley pointed out that "The Whiskers Project paid $8,132 in veterinarian bills to sterilize and rabies vaccinate 134 cats during 2006. We are appealing for the community to financially support The Whiskers Project by attending the upcoming yard sale."

Cat lovers are encouraged to make tax deductible contributions to the Whiskers Project. Donations can be mailed to The Whiskers Project, P. O. Box 575, Blairsville, GA 30514.
