The Panthers are still perfect in region play, going 4-0 during a six day stretch that included three wins over region opponents, capped off by a big victory over Banks County.

Union 3 - Banks 2

The Panthers tied Banks 2-2 earlier in the season in a very physical game in which tempers flared. Tuesday's rematch proved to be everything that was expected, as it turned into another very tight, very physical contest.

"That was a big game for us," Panthers Head Coach Chris Robbins said. "It was another physical game. Both teams stepped up but I think we just wanted it a little bit more. My guys worked hard out there and I was extreme- ly proud of the stuff they did. They deserve it. I didn't substitute in the second half. I left the guys out there that have been here year after year and that I knew wanted [the win] in their heart. They brought it home and I was very, very happy with their performance. It got them pumped up."

The Panthers scored their first goal when Cason Carter put the ball in the net off a corner kick from Ian Thomas. Banks tied the game 1-1, but the Panthers scored again before halftime to go up 2-1 on a Michael Myrick header off another corner kick by Ian Thomas.

In the second half Union added a third score when Myrick crossed the ball in to Russel Thompson, giving Union some breathing room at 3- 1. From there on out the Panthers set the pace, playing a more defensive game.

Although Banks scored in the closing minutes of the game, the Panthers held on for a 3-2 win.

Union 4 - Fannin 0

The Panthers picked up their third subregion win by defeating Fannin County. Coach Robbins said that once again, winning the 50- 50 balls was a big key. The coach said that equals out to controlling the ball most of the time. "We played a pretty solid game," Coach Robbins said.

Michael Myrick scored on a breakaway, Brandon Anguelo scored from outside the 18, and Russel Thompson scored a pair of goals from outside the 18. Coach Robbins added that Thompson, Ian Thomas, and Nate Prentice have really stepped up lately, and have been a big part of the team's success this season.

Union 4 - Gilmer 0

The only game that was not a region game for the Panthers was the matchup against Gilmer, who Union had little trouble with in an early season jamboree. "We were expecting a lot less out of Gilmer but they came out and played really hard and they had some guys that we had not seen," Coach Robbins said.

"They stepped up and I can foresee in the near future they are going to have a pretty good team. They are improving drastically every year." The Panthers goals came on a breakaway by Brandon Anguelo, two free kicks from outside the 18 by Ian Thomas, and a score from Russel Thompson from outside the 18.

Union 3 - Rabun 0

"We've done well against Rabun over and over," Coach Robbins said. "We started out flat, just doing enough to get by. It wasn't our best game but wasn't our worst, it was just an average game for us. We won a lot of 50-50." Michael Myrick scored on a breakaway while Raphael DeMarco and Brody Stephens both scored from outside the 18.
