Blairsville father accused of trying to kill infant son
By JARED PUTNAM Union Sentinel Editor

A Blairsville man is in a Fulton County jail after being accused of trying to kill his infant son.

Michael Charles Callaway, 28, of Blairsville, was charged with Cruelty to Children and Aggravated Assault. His 3- month-old son had been hospitalized in Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite since late February due to breathing difficulties. Unable to determine a cause for the breathing problems, hospital staff placed a hidden camera in the boy's room.

The hospital told the Sandy Springs Police Department that they observed Callaway covering his child's nose and mouth with his hand in an effort to stop his breathing.

Those efforts were allegedly stopped when hospital staff monitoring the video rushed into the room.
