Teas from the Heart Honor Grandmothers
Submitted by N. Lee O'Leary

Teas from the Heart Volunteers, Left to right:Louise Wilson, Anne Wilburn, Betsy Henry.
A tea to honor a special group of grandmothers was held in the home of Kennith and Phyllis Ott of Hiawassee. Teas from the Heart, a non-denominational ministry of volunteers, honored grandmothers and other caregivers who found themselves unexpectedly caring full-time for children.

Mrs. Linda Davis, a grandmother and member of Truett McConnell Baptist Church in Hayesville, spoke from her personal experience. She humorously addressed the social changes and provided practical advice for the emotional, economic, and physical challenges. Mrs. Hope Horkavy, Director of Music and Worship at Hiawassee Methodist Church, gave a spiritually up-lifting concert.

The attendees, ranging in age from 47-77 years, bonded immediately and obviously enjoyed the camaraderie of contemporaries. Several ladies spontaneously shared experiences that brought both laughter and tears. For a couple of hours, these honored women enjoyed the break from little feet amidst a bounty of delicious food and attention. Even the inclement weather didn't put a damper on their day.
